Step into the future: Exploring the Metaverse as Nerds with the University of Twente

Auteur: Hakan Bektas (UT) & Timar Holtkamp

Did you know the VR & AR industry is expected to reach over 30 billion USD in 2023 alone? With the recent announcement of exciting products like Meta's Quest 3 and Apple's Vision Pro, it is likely that this market will grow even faster. At Nerds & Company, we are always at the forefront of novel ideas and emerging tech trends and we believe that now is the perfect time for us to dive into the world of virtual reality and experience it for ourselves.

Collaboration with the University of Twente

To expand our knowledge about virtual reality and explore the exciting possibilities of the Metaverse, we recently had the privilege of collaborating with the University of Twente. Two teams from Nerds & Company had the opportunity to visit the university's campus, where, in total, nine of our colleagues immersed themselves in the virtual realm. Thanks to Meta Horizon Workrooms, we gained an understanding of just how immersive a Metaverse experience can be. With customisable avatars, different sets of locations and dynamic meeting environments.

Exploring Social and Ethical Considerations

Following our virtual reality experience, we engaged in an extensive discussion about the social and ethical implications that arise in this digital environment. At Nerds & Company, we believe it is important to fully grasp how virtual reality and, specifically, the Metaverse might impact us and our customers in future products and services and this collaboration helped us do that in a fun and exciting way!

Embracing the future

The virtual reality experience has inspired us as Nerds regarding possibilities in future scenarios. At Nerds & Company, we are driven by a passion for pushing boundaries and embracing the future. Our collaboration with the University of Twente shows our drive to stay at the forefront of technology and explore new frontiers and has given us a great first look into the world of virtual reality.

As a final note, we’d like to give our thanks to Hakan Bektas, Dr. Robin Effing and Marissa Okkerman from the University of Twente for hosting the wonderful virtual reality event.
